DUANE WERNER

Duane Werner is a retired musician who served for 31 years as the Diaconal Minister of Music for Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois.  Mr. Werner also taught as an Adjunct Associate Professor in piano and voice on the faculty of Upper Iowa University for seven years.  Duane Werner holds a B.A. degree in Music, with honors, from Elmhurst College, and a M.M. degree from the University of Illinois where he majored in organ performance. He is a member of Ph Kappa Lambda. In retirement, Mr. Werner was recently honored for serving ten years as organist for Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Joliet.  While at Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, Mr. Werner developed a music program which included seven choirs, five bell ringing ensembles, four vocal ensembles and a Madrigal ensemble.

He was responsible for the church’s weekly television broadcast and, in 1990, was organist and musical director for an internationally televised service of worship originating from Grace United Methodist Church, Decatur, and Peace United Methodist Church in Berlin, Germany.   Duane Werner holds memberships in the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and the American Guild of Organists.
