Concert Choir – Version 2
Upper Iowa University Concert Choir

Always an avid singer, Ms. Johansen-Werner really found her “voice” in graduate study when she trained with Karen Brunnsen at Concordia University. Bonnie taught applied voice at Upper Iowa University (1990-2003) and Joliet Junior College(2003-2006) and now teaches in her home studio. Bonnie’s students in voice learn and practice healthy vocal techniques. They sing folk songs, Italian and English art songs, contemporary American art songs, and Broadway selections. In addition to recitals, vocalists perform in their school musicals, community musicals, area churches, and school contests.

In addition to teaching voice at Upper Iowa University, Ms. Johansen-Werner directed the Concert Choir, Accents Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Musici Sine Nomine classical chorale in addition to teaching conducting and a broad spectrum of classroom courses including music history and literature. In the late 1990s she was named the McCosh Assistant Professor of Music. Accents and Musici Sine Nomine toured widely, performing in Hawaii, The Bahamas, Houston, Savannah, New Orleans, and Bulgaria.
